COVID-19 has brought about immeasurable changes to the way people everywhere live daily life and is challenging believers to redefine what it means to love and serve their neighbors. What does it look like to be the hands and feet of Christ. . . from a distance? Recently Oaks Learning developed a plan that allows churches to partner with their local food banks in order to provide arts and crafts kits for low-income families who may not have access to these essential resources. The Help for Families at Home Kit includes resources to help churches communicate the opportunity to their members and an Amazon wish list of supplies needed to assemble the craft kits. Donating arts and crafts supplies is as easy as following the link and placing an order, which is then shipped directly to the food bank for assembly and distribution.
Hope Southern Indiana executive director Angie Graf was eager to work with churches in her area and immediately offered the space and volunteers needed. With donations from Northside Christian and Sojourn Church New Albany, they eventually handed out 86 bags of arts and crafts supplies to families who came to pick up food. “They are making a huge hit with the families receiving them today!” said Graf, whose volunteers added Easter candy as an extra treat.
